Biting Insects

Fleas

The most common flea species is the cat flea that feeds on humans and animals.

The control of flea is a one off chemical application of a residual contact insecticide combined with a growth inhibitor applied at the same time to firstly kill off adult fleas and ensure the fleas developing, die out without breeding.

Fleas will lie dormant for periods in carpets, under floor boards awaiting a meal, the treatment can carry over a few weeks during this time a measured reduction should be visible.

Inspection after 4-6 weeks if activity is still evident with adult fleas in situ a secondary treatment can / may be applied after a full breeding cycle has lapsed to ensure eradication is complete.

Chemical Treatment can only be applied when evidence of speciies activity is available to the pest technician.
Wherever possible collect any insects to allow correct species indentification.

Sericata Environmental services will install monitors as a first stage of treatment to collect evidence of activity and advise on the correct treatment required to clear the infestation

Bed Bugs

Bed Bugs have shown an increase in activity recently. Up to 5mm in length prior to feeding, the preference is for humans although they feed on certain animals as allowed.

Fortunately Bed Bugs are known not to carry as many diseases as fleas due to the difference in their feeding habbits.

The insects called bed bugs actually prefer living away from the food source, the bed. They prefer to lay and wait for a victim in the bed frame, carpets, headboards, in fact anywhere close to the victims sleeping place. This enables them free access to their feed area and a short return back home to hideaway during the day.

Due to the bugs ability to hide in plug sockets, TV's, wood joints, under wallpaper which compared to a flea, treatment has to be carried out over a period of time to ensure any new eggs hatching are also accounted for. As many as three chemical applications may be required with intermediate inspections to ensure all new hatches are accounted for. Bed Bugs will migrate to a new area along cables and service pipework to a new area if they are disturbed and or the chemical applied has missed an area. Great attention to detail is required to complete riddance of these biting insects.

Protocol treatment application and recorded visits are an eddential part of the treatment to ensure success in eradicating this insect. Professional treatment is essential to a riddance programme. Sericate Environmental Services specialise in bed bug treatment.
